Doug - Preface 12 September 2015

Jon,

My thoughts on the Preface.

Points of interest to me.

1.  This book does not offer any help for someone deciding between different Christian religions.  He himself was layman of church of england.
2.  His purpose is to bring an outsider into the christian fold.
3.   Our divisions should never be discussed with those who don't already believe that there is one God and Jesus his son.
4.  He brings forth the concept of the hall which opens into several rooms.  The rooms being the different religions and the hall is believing in Jesus and his teachings
5.  I thought the most significant part of the forward was the last two pages where he mentions that when you get in your room(your religion).  You must keep praying for the light and you must keep obeying the rules common to the whole house which I think he is meaning the rules that Jesus gave when he was on earth.     And above all you must ask which door is the true one, not the one that has the best paneling or paint.   Also being kind to those who have chosen different doors and to those who are in the hall.
6.   The last two paragraphs of the forward are enlightening.   We should be asking are these doctrines true, Is their holiness here.  Does my conscience move me toward this.    Is my reluctance to knock at this door due to my pride or mere taste, or is my dislike of this particular door-keeper?

This reminds me of the song More Holiness give me.    More strivings within.  Of course I tend to love songs for they speak to me and move my conscience.   Anyway,   CS Lewis is really good at writing his thoughts in such a way to make you think.
